Misconceptions in Teaching Mathematics

As children learn mathematics, the sense they make of what they are presented with can differ from what we, as teachers, might expect. We are also unaware of the total experience they bring to the classroom which could give them a range of different ideas. Learners often ‘get things wrong’. One of the challenges in the classroom is for teachers and learners to understand the ideas children come up with and to decide how to deal with them.
